Agnes

“No way. I am not going to do that.”

“Oh, come on, Agnes! You promised!”

“I promised I would go to the waterpark with you. I said nothing about subjecting myself to this… monstrosity.”

Agnes eyed the thing nervously. To call it a waterslide was like calling a raging, storming ocean a kiddie pool. “We’ll drown.”

As much as she was enjoying seeing Cora in swimwear, she certainly wasn’t keen for this.

“Do you have a fear of water I don’t know about?”

“I don’t have a fear of water, I have a fear of death!”

Cora rolled her eyes. “Stop being so dramatic. It’ll be fun, I promise.”

Agnes eyed the twisting, chaotic water rollercoaster doubtfully. She did not want to go on that thing, but Cora’s look of excitement and anticipation was hard to refuse.

“If I drown, you’d better resuscitate me.”

“Yeah, yeah. Let’s go.”

Agnes grimaced as she and Cora got into the little floating donut. She clung to the side railing for dear life. She didn’t even have time to dread what was coming before they were caught up in the current.

The donut spun wildly as it shot through tunnels and bounced over raised parts of the course. Cora screamed, but it was a scream of delight rather than fear.

Despite Agnes’ fears, the donut didn’t capsize, nor were she and Cora smashed against one of the tunnel walls. Agnes’ stomach swooped as they started going down a long slide. Cora was laughing next to her, throwing her hands up in the air. She was so beautiful. Agnes wasn’t quite that confident, but she had to admit, this wasn’t half bad.

Watching Cora’s enjoyment sparked her own, and by the end of the ride, she was laughing too.

“Do you want to go again?” Cora asked.

“Sure, why not?”

“Are you sure you don’t need me to perform mouth-to-mouth on you?”

Agnes rolled her eyes. “Keep dreaming, Cora.”

Cora chuckled good-naturedly. “Let’s go.”

They held onto each other as they stumbled to the back of the line for the water rollercoaster, both still dizzy from the crazy ride.

Agnes was well aware that they had to look like a couple to anyone watching but reminded herself that what other people saw didn’t matter.

What disturbed her more than the looks was the knowledge that she was pushing her own boundaries. This felt suspiciously like a date. Sure, it was something two friends could do together, but combined with her attraction and her own evolving feelings for Cora, Agnes was uneasy.

Of course, it was difficult to feel uneasy when she was having so much fun. After another round on the most insane ride in the park, they got pizza and ice cream from the huge food court.

By the time the day was done, both Cora and Agnes were soaking wet, shivering, and having the best time of their lives.

Agnes couldn’t even remember the last time she’d had so much fun. She had friends, but she typically tended to socialize with them at work, and when they did see each other outside of work, it was usually for a quick coffee in between shifts.
